Flow Technology is truly a progressive, technology driven company. The introduction of their Decathalon flow meter in the mid 1980s started a rebirth in the popularity of positive displacement (PD) flow meters. Flow Technology has managed to combine both shear simplicity and absolute accountability into their very unique and patented design.

Is CORIOLIS Always The Best Solution?

We suggest not. Interestingly, the Flow Technology PD meter competes as much against CORIOLIS devices as it does other PD meters. In instances where mass measurement is not a an actual requirement, then Flow Technology meters offer very attractive advantages not available from other PD meters.

Based on their patented geometry design, Flow Technology meters differ from all other PD meters on the market - no bearings, no timing gears, and no mechanical drive! Appearing much like a gear pump in reverse, Flow Technology meters feature two lobed rotors made from a variety of high tech, engineered, thermo-plastics. Imbedded in each lobe is a polarized magnet which, in combination with an external (Hall Effect) pick-up coil, produce a true digital output.

The two displacement rotors are the only moving parts in the Flow Technology meter. They rotate on stationary shafts and can be replaced in a matter of minutes. Their natural lubricity allows them to operate in unusual conditions for PD meters, in particular the ability to measure pulsating streams. No other device that we are aware of can boast of this capability.

Designed especially for high viscosity services, Flow Technology meters are often found in sub one centapoise services. Although sensitive to viscosity changes when measuring thin fluids, the rate accuracy of the Flow Technology meter at 3 Sigma is a solid +/- 0.1 % with a repeatability greater than +/- 0.05%. We can also boast of turndown ratios, given sufficient viscosity, of greater than 100:1. That too, is unique to Flow Technology meters.

The Flow Technology PD meter is also designed to meet sanitary service conditions, pass solids (defined conditions), or to handle extremely aggressive services and/or high temperatures.

Decathalon isn't alone anymore, either. Newer technologies, patents issued, have brought to the market specialty designs including Flow Technology Fuelcom system, the only proven Net fuel system on the market for #2 diesel, and Vector a unique double helix design PD meter to be introduced in the Summer of 1996.
